RMHC Australia helps keep families together and close to the care of their children. To achieve this, we have several Programs integrated into the hospital infrastructure, making things easier for families.

Families often have to travel far from home to receive the medical care their child’s needs. This can mean spending large amounts of time and money traveling to hospital, instead of spending it as a family. Our 19 Houses across Australia provide comfortable accommodation for families, free of charge, making it easier for them to come together and look after their ill or injured child.
A comfortable place for families to rest and recharge in hospital.
For families with children in the hospital, days can feel never-ending. Our 19 Family Rooms across Australia offer a warm and welcoming place for families to come together. Located inside major children’s hospitals and just moments away from their child’s bedside, these Family Rooms provide a space to enjoy a cup of tea or a meal, play as a family, take a shower, or simply rest.
Time together to relax and reconnect.
There’s nothing more valuable than spending quality time as a family. Our 6 Family Retreats in peaceful locations give families with an ill or injured child, or those grieving the loss of a child, the opportunity to take a break and spend some much needed time together.
Helping ill or injured children catch-up on missed education.
Ill or injured children have enough to deal with, they shouldn’t have to worry about falling behind at school too. We help up to 1,200 students on any given week catch up on missed education, keeping their minds engaged and making the return to school less stressful. Plus, our EDMed Program helps ensure teachers are well equipped to support ill or injured children returning to school.
Mobile support that helps families stay by their child’s side.
Our many Hospitality Carts across Australia are packed with toys, colouring in books and other goodies to keep children entertained while they are in hospital. They also provide families with a range of items including snacks, refreshments and personal items. Being on wheels, the carts can bring practical support and comfort to families right at the doorway of their child’s hospital room free of charge.
