Ronald McDonald Family Room Newcastle, located within the John Hunter Children’s Hospital is a comfortable haven where families can escape the hospital environment. The Family Room is open for everyone in the family providing somewhere for the kids to play, kitchen to prepare refreshments, bathroom and laundry facilities.

Our Family Room is free and open to all eligible families who have a child patient in the John Hunter Children’s Hospital in the following wards: J1, J2, H1, NICU, ICU, Nexus, Paediatric Outpatient Clinics.

Basic refreshments are available when staying at the Family Room, or you are welcome to bring food from home and either refrigerate or heat using our facilities. Complimentary toiletries and laundry powder are also provided.

Our Facilities

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a home away from home inside the John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Open every day, it offers a range of facilities that makes looking after a child in the hospital that little bit easier on the whole family. Set up similar to a home, the convenience of being able to use the kitchen, laundry and bathroom amenities whilst in the hospital or having a comfortable place to take a break in the lounge or quiet room is appreciated by the families.

The John Hunter Hospital campus is a no smoking facility. Families are required to respect this policy when using the Ronald McDonald Family Room including outdoor areas. There is also a strict no alcohol policy in place.
