Ronald McDonald House on Park officially opens its doors

Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia celebrated an exciting milestone with Minister for Health and Mental Health the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA BA, officially opening Ronald McDonald House on Park.

“The opening of Ronald McDonald House on Park is a critical milestone in our journey to realising our goal, that no family in Western Australia who needs us is turned away.” Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia Chief Executive Officer, Peter King said.

The opening will enable the charity to support up to 50 additional families with ill or injured children each night over the next five years. With more families from across Western Australia needing the support of Ronald McDonald House Charities, this additional accommodation couldn’t come soon enough.

“For many years Ronald McDonald House has provided a much-needed home away from home for regional families experiencing some of the toughest times of their lives.

The staff at PCH and KEMH do an incredible job caring for children experiencing serious illnesses, and Ronald McDonald House is a crucial support service for those needing to travel to Perth from the regions.” Minister Sanderson said

In 2024, the State Government committed additional funding of $2.5m for the development of a business case that would see Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia permanently increase their current capacity by up to an additional 100 rooms.

With development of the business case underway the charity is dedicated to ensuring that expansion plan will provide a purpose-built facility with all regional West Australian families in mind.

“We have undergone a rigorous community consultation process with Creating Communities, to ensure that we develop a business case that will deliver a bigger, better home away from home for regional West Australian families whose child needs medical care in Perth.”  said Peter

From today Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia have the capacity to accommodate 111 families each night across Ronald McDonald House at QEII, Ronald McDonald House in Perth Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House on Park, thanks to funding provide by the Cook Government, the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Lotterywest.
