Our Learning Program

Ronald McDonald Learning Program

Ill or injured children and their families have enough to deal with. Our free Learning Program supports over 1,200 students each week, helping them catch up on missed education and making the return to school less stressful. Most children will receive up to four terms of one-on-one tuition with a qualified teacher, plus an educational assessment, speech, or occupational therapy if needed. The student has a serious illness or injury resulting in hospitalisation
or continuous medical care, and had a significant amount of time off schooling (approximately a term or more).

Professional Learning for Teachers

Helping a student transition back to school after illness or injury can be challenging for teaching staff. EDMed, our free professional development program, provides teachers with strategies to support these students. Delivered face-to-face or online, the two-hour course equips educators with practical tools to ensure a smooth reintegration into the classroom.

Tutor with Us

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program offers teachers an opportunity to help ill or injured children catch up on their missed education. Teachers are paid hourly to tutor students in their school or community. Each student receives up to 40 weeks of tutoring, usually conducted for an hour each week over four school terms.

About our Charlie Bell Scholarship

Childhood illness or injury can make life stand still. Making any progress – whether it be in your education or career – can feel almost impossible. That’s why our Scholarship program exists. By awarding one-off grants of up to $5,000 to deserving young people, we’re giving them the chance to get their schooling or career back on track. Whether the money goes towards university fees, apprenticeship tools, books or supplies, RMHC is there to help them succeed.

Acknowledgement of Country

At RMHC Australia, we respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, skies and waterways on which we gather today. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. We celebrate the resilience and strength of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, the next generation of storytellers, Custodians, and leaders. We are honoured to support and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including families with ill or injured children, so together, we can create a brighter, healthier future for every child.

Make a Difference for Families & Children

Parents don’t know when their child will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. And with your help, we can strive to support them all throughout their journey.
