Help us help even more families in need
Ronald McDonald House Charities was founded in 1974 in the USA as a result of the foresight of Dr Audrey Evans, an oncologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She envisioned a place where families could live and get proper rest away from the ward while their children were undergoing treatment. Funds to bring this vision to life and build the first House were raised by the local McDonald’s restaurant, and in exchange for their support, it was named ‘Ronald McDonald House’.
The first Ronald McDonald House in Australia was opened in Camperdown, NSW in 1981, providing a much-needed home away from home for families with ill or injured children. Today, McDonald’s remain committed and passionate about supporting RMHC, now and into the future.
McDonald’s has been at the heart of RMHC’s work in Australia, providing:
Their commitment to Australian families has made a profound impact, and their partnership remains essential in helping us provide the care families need.
While McDonald’s is our largest corporate partner, RMHC is an independent charity in Australia, relying on support from a variety of sources to grow and sustain our services. These include:
Your support is critical in helping us continue to expand our reach and ensure that families across Australia have a place to turn during challenging times. Together, we can make an even greater impact for Australian families.
At RMHC Australia, we respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, skies and waterways on which we gather today. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. We celebrate the resilience and strength of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, the next generation of storytellers, Custodians, and leaders. We are honoured to support and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including families with ill or injured children, so together, we can create a brighter, healthier future for every child.
Parents don’t know when their child will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. And with your help, we can strive to support them all throughout their journey.
